“turn off”という表現には、
「（水・ガスなど）を止める」
「（栓など）を締める」
「（ラジオ・テレビ・明かりなど）を消す」
などという意味があります。
スイッチやボタンを押したり、栓をひねったりして、
水道やガスを止めたり、電気などを消す場合に用いられる表現ですね。
この表現の反対語は、“turn on”になります。
