“first of all”という表現には、

「まず第一に」「まず最初に」「何よりもまず」

などという意味があります。

“firstly”「まず第一に」という表現とほぼ同じ意味合いになりますね。

また、これと同じように“of all”を付けて、
“second of all”「第二に」、“third of all”「第三に」
などと言うこともできます。

ここで、“first of all”と似た表現として、
“at first”という表現がありますが、こちらは、
「初めは・・・だったが、後にはそうではなくなった」
という意味合いになり、

“first of all”や“firstly”という表現とは、
意味合いが異なるので混同しないように気をつけましょう。
